E! Unveils ‘House of Villains’ Season 2 Trailer, Sets Two-Night October Premiere – (TV News Roundup) (2024)

E! has released the trailer for Season 2 of “House of Villains,” the Joel McHale-hosted reality show that sees 10 of reality TV’s most infamous “villains” come together to outsmart and out-manipulate each other in a series of challenges to win a cash prize, and the title of “America’s Ultimate Supervillain.”

The show has been slated for a two-night premiere, with the first episode to be broadcast live on E!, Bravo, SYFY and USA on Oct. 9 at 10 p.m. ET/PT and the second on the same time on Oct. 10. Following the premiere, the series will air in its regular Thursday timeslot at 10 p.m. ET/PT on E! and will be available to stream on Peaco*ck.

The trailer features the season’s malicious cast, all reunited at the iconic lair (mansion) from Season 1, with “RuPaul’s Drag Race’s” Kandy Muse iconically declaring, “You are going to come into the house of villains? This is my motherf*cking house!”

Season 2 “villains” include Wes Bergmann (“The Challenge,”) Teresa Giudice (“The Real Housewives of New Jersey,”) Jessie Godderz (“Big Brother,”) Richard Hatch (“Survivor,”) Victoria Larson (“The Bachelor,”) Larissa Lima (“90 Day Fiancé,”), Kandy Muse (“RuPaul’s Drag Race,”) Camilla Poindexter (“Bad Girls Club,”) Tiffany “New York” Pollard (“Flavorof Love”) and Safaree (“Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.” Surprise guests include Janice Dickinson, Tori Spelling and former villains Bobby Lytes and Jax Taylor.

Season 1 averaged 861,000 total viewers and 384,000 in the 18-49 demo across all platforms through 35 days, making it the network’s most-watched new series since 2020.

FIRST LOOKS/TRAILERS

“Born Evil: The Serial Killer And The Savior,” the first docuseries from executive producer Michael Bay, will premiere across three nights on ID at 9:00 p.m. ET and 6:00 p.m. PT beginning on Monday, Sept. 2.

The docuseries will focus on the story of Hadden Clark, a lesser-known serial killer. Produced with unrivaled access to Clark himself through private, recorded conversations conducted by Bay, “Born Evil: The Serial Killer And The Savior” features a deep dive into the life and crimes of the serial killer.

Bay will be executive producer on the series, which is produced by Range Studios with Bay Films and Ladder Truck 33 for Investigation Discovery. “Born Evil: The Serial Killer And The Savior” will also be available to stream on Max.

The docuseries “offers insight into Clark’s traumatic childhood, a violent family history, and unpacks the many unsolved cold cases linked to his prison confessions. Explosive interviews with key individuals are also layered throughout, with Hadden’s brother Geoff Clark going on the record and then, most jarring, the recipient of Clark’s confessions, his former cellmate Jack Truitt whom Clark believed to be ‘Jesus’ and his personal savior,” reads the series’ description.

Acorn TV has just released the teaser for their upcoming detective drama, “Ellis.”

The series stars three-time Olivier Award-winner and Tony Award-nomineeSharon D Clarke(“Showtrial,” “Lost Boys & Fairies,” “Rocketman”) as DCI Ellis, a tenacious cop who is parachuted into failing investigations. The show also stars Andrew Gower (“The Winter King,” “Carnival Row,” “Outlander”) as Ellis’ right-hand man, DS Harper.

“Each two-hour episode will see Ellis arrive at a different local police station where she will have to win over the local detectives and immerse herself in the cases she’s come to solve. As a Black female cop, Ellis is used to being dismissed and overlooked, but remains focused on her work as a first-class murder detective, fueled by a determination for justice and a deep well of compassion for those who need it,” reads the series’ logline.

The three-part series will premiere this November on Acorn TV.

HBO has released the official trailer for the fourth and final season of “My Brilliant Friend,” which will debut on HBO and stream on Max on Sept. 9 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

“Based on the bestselling novels by Elena Ferrante, ‘My Brilliant Friend’ follows Elena Greco and the most important friend in her life, Raffaella ‘Lila’ Cerullo. After meeting as children in 1950s Naples, their story goes on to cover over 60 years, exploring the mystery of Lila – Elena’s brilliant best friend and, in a way, her worst enemy,” reads the show’s logline.

It continues: “The fourth installment of the saga, titled ‘Story of the Lost Child,’ delves into the adult lives of Elena and Lila. They find themselves entangled in the turmoil of Italy in the late 1980s, nearing the end of decades of political violence and social unrest. Amid motherhood and career demands, amid betrayals, threats, disappearances, and natural disasters, Elena and Lila once again reside in the same neighborhood.”

Netflix has just released the first images for Season 3 of “The Lincoln Lawyer,” which will premiere on the streamer on Oct. 17.

“Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), an iconoclastic idealist, runs his law practice out of the back seat of his Lincoln as he takes on cases big and small across the expansive city of Los Angeles. Based on the series of bestselling novels by renowned author Michael Connelly, the third season is based on the fifth book in The Lincoln Lawyer series, The Gods of Guilt,” reads the series’ logline.

The series also stars Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole, Angus Sampson and Yaya DaCosta. Neve Campbell, Merrin Dungey, Elliott Gould, Devon Graye, Michael Irby, Maisie Klompus, Allyn Moriyon, Wolé Parks, John Pirruccello, Fiona Rene, Philip Anthony-Rodriguez, Jon Tenney and Krista Warner are all slated to guest and recur in the series.

The series was created for television by David E Kelley and was developed for television by Ted Humphrey, who serves as co-showrunner alongside Dailyn Rodriguez. Apple TV+ unveiled the trailer for its Spanish-language medical drama “Midnight Family,” which will premiere on the streamer on Sept. 25.

“Inspired by the award-winning documentary of the same name, ‘Midnight Family’ follows Marigaby Tamayo, an ambitious and gifted medical student by day, who spends her nights saving lives throughout a sprawling, contrasted and fascinating Mexico City aboard her family’s privately owned ambulance. Along with her father Ramón and her siblings Marcus and Julito Marigaby serves a population of millions by tackling extreme medical emergencies to make a living,” reads the series’ logline.

The show features an entirely Hispanic cast and crew led by Ariel Award winner Joaquín Cosío (“Narcos: Mexico,”) Renata Vaca (“Dale Gas,”) Diego Calva (“Babylon”) and introduces Sergio Bautista, with the special participation of Goya Award winner Óscar Jaenada (“Hernán”) and with José María de Tavira (“The Candidate,”) Itzan Escamilla (“Élite,”) Mariana Gómez (“The Queen of Flow,”) Dolores Heredia (“Capadocia”) and special guest Oscar nominee Yalitza Aparicio (“Roma.”)

The hour-long series will make its global debut on Apple TV+ with two episodes on Sept. 25, followed by one new episode every Wednesday through Nov. 20.

DEVELOPMENT

SickBird Productions unannounced plans to develop two original, unscripted series, “Roots on the Ground” and “Global Affairs.”

Both series are described as and designed to be “well-researched, journalism-driven explorations that shine a spotlight on diverse, female-centric storytelling,” reads the statement.

“‘Roots on the Ground’ is a powerful new series that uncovers the untold stories of female innovators from underrepresented regions, inspiring a global audience. Each episode intimately explores the lives of visionary women — from tech leaders in Kenya to indigenous farmers in Peru — as they break barriers and drive economic and cultural change,” reads its logline.

Meanwhile, “‘Global Affairs’ takes you on a journey into the diverse world of dating across different regions. Each episode highlights the unique and compelling stories of women as they navigate relationships shaped by their local cultures. Alongside these personal tales, our narrator explores the distinctive dating traditions and norms of each area.”

SickBird previously announced the selling of their original IP to Kevin Hart’s company, Heartbeat Productions and is also behind three other unscripted series, “The Shade Brunch,” “Thick House” and Love Locked. Collectively, these shows have amassed over 40 million viewers.

PROGRAMMING

Showdog Studios has signed with Gersh for representation in all areas and added five projects to its production and development slate.

Showdog’s five new slate additions include the animated feature “Baby on Board,” the live-action feature “The 422,” the scripted drama series “Plan B,” “Sweet Toxins” and the nonfiction series “Spec Ops Boss.” Showdog founder John Attard and executive Robert Harris will executive produce all five projects.

“Signing with Gersh marks a significant milestone for Showdog Studio as we continue to expand our footprint in television and film,” said Attard. “Our dedication to storytelling is at the heart of everything we do. By combining this passion with a tech-forward approach, we’re able to push the boundaries of what’s possible in visual effects and production.”

All nine episodes of FX’s new limited series “Say Nothing,” based on the novel by Patrick Radden Keefe, will premiere exclusively on Hulu Nov. 14.

“Say Nothing” chronicles the lives of several Irish Republican Army members during The Troubles, which was an ethno-nationalist conflict that lasted in Northern Ireland for about 30 years. The series explores the “extremes some people will go to in the name of their beliefs, the way a deeply divided society can suddenly tip over into armed conflict, the long shadow of radical violence for all affected and the emotional and psychological costs of a code of silence.”

Series stars include Lola Petticrew, Hazel Doupe, Anthony Boyle, Josh Finan and Maxine Peake.

Executive producers include series creator Joshua Zetumer, Keefe, Edward McDonnell, Monica Levinson and Michael Lennox. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson also executive produce for Color Force. FX Productions serves as producer.

EVENTS

Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada will be honored with the award for best performance in a TV series at the 32nd edition of EnergaCamerimage, which takes place in Torún, Poland Nov. 16-23.

Sanada currently serves as the star and producer of FX’s “Shōgun.” His performance as Lord Toranaga has earned him two 2024 Emmy nominations for outstanding lead actor in a drama. His other credits include “John Wick: Chapter 4,” “Bullet Train” and “Army of the Dead.”
